Easter Rail Replacement Bus Service – Message from South Eastern

Please see message below received from South Eastern Railway:

‘While more than 90% of services will run as normal across our wider network, there will be temporary changes to coastal routes in Thanet affecting journeys between Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate, and Herne Bay across the Easter Weekend.

Services changes Friday 3 April – Monday 6 April

Vital engineering work between Ramsgate and Herne Bay from Good Friday 3 April to Easter Monday 6 April means that no trains will run between these stations across the Easter Weekend.

This vital engineering work is part of our ongoing investment plan to deliver a safe and reliable railway for our customers. We appreciate that there is never an ideal time to close the railway, and in planning and delivering work like this we are committed to minimising disruption so far as is possible.

Keeping customers moving

We understand how important smooth and reliable travel is during holiday periods.

Fully accessible rail replacement buses will operate between Herne Bay and Ramsgate throughout the Easter Weekend, connecting to all intermediate stations to help keep people moving during this engineering work. These rail replacement buses will run between:

  • Herne Bay and Ramsgate calling at all stations
  • Herne Bay and Ramsgate calling at Birchington-on-Sea, Margate and Broadstairs
  • Margate and Ramsgate calling at Broadstairs only

Journey planners have already been updated so passengers and visitors can plan their journeys with confidence.

If anyone requires assistance or would like to discuss specific travel needs, our Assisted Travel Team is available on 0800 783 4524 or 0800 783 4548 (Textphone).

What upgrades are happening on the railway this Easter?

Engineers will upgrade key parts of the railway across Kent and south‑east London. Our work in Thanet includes installing new track at Margate and renewing bridge components in Broadstairs.

Further improvements include drainage and track repairs at Hildenborough, maintenance and new rail installation between Ashford and Dover, signalling upgrades and station work in London, and follow-up works at Dartford after February’s major points upgrade.

These works form part of essential upgrades taking place across our network to ensure the railway remains safe and reliable for the future, as part of our £1.35 billion investment plan in the South East’s railway infrastructure from 2024-2029.

I hope that this update is useful to you.
